FOOTBALLER INTERVIEW

PLAYER - Tom Davies                                               CURRENT CLUB - FC United of Manchester

Which football club did you start your career with :-

I started my career playing locally for Grappenhall Juniors. From there I was scouted for Manchester United and they were the first proper club I joined. It was great for me as I was a United fan and I really enjoyed my time there.

How did club notice you :-

I was picked up playing for my local team and then was invited for trials at Man Utd and Man City. Fortunately I played well in the trials at United and they asked me to sign.

When was your debut and against which club :-

I remember playing in a friendly against Blackpool and that was my debut. It was all very surreal for a young lad but looking back it was all great experience.

Have you played for any other clubs other than first club and current club :-

Ive had spells at Blackburn Rovers and Team Northumbria in the Northern League. Ive always enjoyed my football wherever ive been and its something I couldn’t imagine living without.

When and how did you join current club :-

After returning from University in Newcastle I was desperate to find a club back at home for when I moved back. The opportunity to play for a few clubs arose, but when I got the chance to trial at FC United I knew that this was where I wanted to be. The set up and everything is different to any non league club ive ever been around before.

What has been highlight of career so far :-

Either playing for United or scoring a couple of goals at St James’ Park for Team Northumbria. Both are something I will never forget!

Have you received international recognition :-

No never, but as for any footballer it has to be something you strive for. To get into any of the England Amateur teams in the future would be a great honour.

Have you won any medals in professional football :-

Again never, as long as Manchester United keep on winning them though that’ll do for me.

Which is best stadium that you have played at :-

St James Park without a doubt. Played there in a cup final against Newcastle reserves and managed to get myself on the score sheet twice in a 4-4 draw. We lost on penalties but it was unbelievable to get there with the lads.

Which is worst stadium that you have played at :-

There is some rascal stadiums in the Northern League as im sure a lot of the lads up there would agree. My old stomping ground Sandy Lane in Lymm though has to be up there, youd be lucky to see grass on the pitch any time of the year.

Who is your best friend in football :-

Fortunately for me a lot of my friends ive grown up with play football so ive always had a good group around me. Its nice to see them coming to game aswell, though the pressure is on cos im sure ill get a ribbing on a Saturday night if they see me have a shocker!

What advice would you give young players starting out in football :-

Its hard not to say all the cliché things but it has to be never to give up, whatever level your at. You never know who is watching and what could be around the corner. Also, you have to enjoy it, whether your challenging for trophies professionally or kicking a ball around with your mates, football is there to be enjoyed.

Do you collect football programmes or football memorabilia :-

Ive always kept the ones that ive bought when ive been to games and they are locked away somewhere. I know people that have some very interesting things from years ago and I love looking through old football stuff when I get the chance.

What are your interests outside football :-

Like most footballers I like golf and that takes up a lot of my free time.

What would be ultimate ambition in football :-

To play at the highest level possible. Im not one to put a limit on that but im realistic and just want to keep improving.
